According to the Italian website Calciomercatoweb, Liverpool are prepared to finally sever their ties with flop striker Mario Balotelli. The Italian’s loan at AC Milan is set to expire in the summer and the Rossoneri are yet to express their desire to make the deal permanent. With a return to Anfield reportedly off the cards, the Italian daily claims Liverpool will offer Balotelli to Fiorentina as the makeweight in a deal to bring Josip Ilicic to Merseyside.
The Slovenian international, who has been capped 36 times, has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time with Tottenham Hotspur being credited with interest in the 28-year-old. He has been very helpful for Fiorentina this season and has had a hand in 20 goals in his 31 appearances.
Former Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic has slammed Balotelli, putting his future in Serie A in doubt.
Spain and Germany always seemed unlikely landing spots. Especially if he failed at a fourth major European club. Certainly the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona wouldn’t be lining up for him—and like in Italy, nobody else who might actually have wanted him could have afforded him, with Balotelli’s high wage demands more than La Viola can afford.
It reminds to be seen if Ilicic, who has been key player for Italian club, would love to move at Anfield, with Liverpool as well as Fiorentina probably won’t play on Champions League next season. Also the 28-year-old might fail in competition with Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana who are all playing in the similar position.
