According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are considering summer move for former Inter Milan captain Andrea Ranocchia. The 28-year-old was signed by Internazionale in 2010 for reported fee of €19m, but is currently out on loan at Serie A side Sampdoria, where he has made 24 appearances. Antonio Conte, who is said to be Ranocchia’s admirer, is widely expected to make big changes after his arrival in London.
During January transfer window the former Genoa-man was heavily linked with Liverpool move, the Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb reported that Ranocchia had verbally agreed to join the Reds, but Jurgen Klopp seems to cooled down the interest after signing Joel Matip from Bundesliga side Schalke 04.
Ranocchia hasn’t been Conte’s first choice at Italy national team even in Giorgio Chiellini’s absence, and left him out Italy’s Euro 2016 squad. So why will the 46-year-old tactician sign a player he doesn’t trust?
It’s a fact that Inter refused to having Ranocchia in the squad, as they have sent 6ft5 defender out on loan to the domestic rivals and appointed Argentine striker Mauro Icardi as a captain.
The towering centre-back is often struggling due to injuries and made just 166 appearances for Inter during his six years at San Siro. While, Chelsea’s Garry Cahill, who also often has fitness problems and lost his place in starting line-up, has made 190 appearances in four seasons at Stamford Bridge.
