The Hoops start every campaign with the same ambition – to win every competition they enter – and they have the chance to put themselves in the semi-final of the first domestic cup tournament of the season when they take on Alloa Athletic in the League Cup at Celtic Park this Wednesday evening.
Victory would see the Bhoys secure a semi-final date at Hampden and Tierney said he and his team-mates are keen to make it into the last four.
“We want to win a cup,” he said. “It comes quickly and if we win this game we’re into the semi-finals, so we’re looking forward to Wednesday.
“There were a few lows in Europe last year and the semi-finals weren’t great but it was good experience for me as I hadn’t played in either before then. If we can get to the semi-final I can use that experience as well and hopefully go on to win it.
“You remember the feeling when you get beat. It’s horrible and I don’t want to feel that again.”
Celtic head into Wednesday’s cup-tie in good form, having beaten Motherwell 5-0 in the previous round and extended their lead at the top of the SPFL Premiership table at the weekend, despite losing a late goal to Inverness Caley Thistle to leave the Highlands with a share of the points.
Finding the net hasn’t been a problem for the Hoops, but Tierney said the team wants to be able to rely on just one goal to win a game, instead of having to score four or five.
“We’re working on it (keeping a clean sheet) on the training field and hopefully it will come together,” he added. “If we score one goal, we want that to win us a game. We don’t want to concede.”
